Why Only RMTs Should Perform Massage

Most everyone has experienced sore, stiff, or aching muscles. Aside from pharmaceutical aid, rest, ice, compression and elevation, an effective treatment for muscle pain is massage therapy. This is the manipulation of soft tissues in the body that helps relieve pain while improving a person’s muscle mobility.

Many spas and clinics offer several types of massage to alleviate muscle and joint discomfort. While a relaxing massage can have an overall soothing effect for a body, the services of a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) can better address chronic pain and physical limitation.

Here are some reasons on why RMTs are the best qualified massage therapists:

1. RMTs are registered professionals. In Ontario, RMTs are registered by the College of Massage Therapists. These professionals are trained and have the experience necessary to properly provide therapeutic massage.

2. RMTs provide long-term care. Depending on the patient’s health needs, an RMT may plan out a rehabilitative program for the patient to treat and restore affected muscles, joints, tissues, and ligaments.

3. RMTs provide specialized care. A patient’s individualized care plan depends on their age, ability, and overall physical health. A skilled RMT does not provide a “one size fits all” care plan. Rather, they cater to each individual’s physical requirements.

There are many reasons why RMTs should be our preferred massage practitioners. They are specialized professionals who can properly assess and locate the exact source of muscle pain or discomfort. They are also trained to guide patients with long-term health management plans to prevent recurring pain or injury.

At Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centres of Ontario, massage therapy is one of our specialties. To make an appointment and begin your own specialized care plan, please check our list of centres and give us a call.
